The New Fort Worden
The Quimper Foundation is dedicated to furthering collaborative, intentional community. Our mandate is to raise the quality of discourse in our community and engage the most essential questions of life here, in the most direct and positive manner. And to get some real things done in the bargain.
One of the essential questions for the community is ‘Whither Fort Worden?
We are in full support of the direction the Washington State Parks Commission is taking with the Fort including the establishment of a Volunteer Task Force to be the principle visionary and strategic entity in the unfolding of the new Fort through 2007-2008.
We believe that providing some of our private, Foundation resources to the public work of the Task Force can bring greater cohesion, clarity and efficiency and more substantial outcomes for all concerned. Such effort and investment would also mirror the envisioned private/public future governance of the Fort.
Therefore, the Foundation has committed funds and human resources to:
- Amplify the efforts of the Volunteer Task Force envisioned in the Parks plan for the next 18 months
- Convert the regional community’s abundant appreciation of Fort Worden into measurable, valuable action in service of the proposed evolution of the Fort
- Enhance shared infrastructure and collaboration between nonprofits across and beyond the Port Townsend community
- Help set the stage for a great thing to occur
